Subjects Taught
8th Grade

Hello Temple Tigers! I am privileged to call Temple my home.  My name is Teresa Kelly Steele and I teach 8th grade ELA/Literature. I earned my Bachelors of Science degree from Jacksonville State University in Secondary Education with a dual major in English and History.  I moved to Georgia in 1997 and earned certifications in Secondary English, Reading, and Gifted Education. I have also worked as a literacy coach for Georgia's Choice.

I have had so many experiences in the classroom and with extracurricular activities. I have been a cheerleading coach, literacy coach, team leader, Jr. Beta sponsor, drama club sponsor, spelling bee coordinator, Veteran's Day coordinator, field trip coordinator for trips such as Skidaway Island and the theatres in Atlanta...and the list goes on! My experience in everything has taught me many lessons. Above all, to let my students know that I care about their present and their future. Success is an expectation in my classroom and if my students work hard when the going gets tough, they can do GREAT things!! I have been teaching since 1999 and love it!

I was born Teresa Kelly Heathcock on June 14, 1970, in Calhoun County, Alabama, to Donald and Patricia Heathcock. I was one of three girls, one older, Misty, and one younger than me, Lana.  My family lived in a small rural community known as Cedar Springs on the outskirts of Jacksonville, Alabama. I attended Cedar Springs Elementary School, Pleasant Valley High School, and was a 1988 graduate of Alexandria High School. After graduation, I worked as a dental assistant and later attended dental hygiene school. I decided that I wanted to try something different and enrolled in college at Jacksonville State University. There, I decided to become a teacher and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education. After graduation from college, I met and married Chris Steele from Temple, GA. I am glad to call a "Georgia boy" my husband and have heard every Alabama joke told by a true Georgia Bulldog fan! Chris is employed as a Nissan division manager at Decostar in Carrollton, GA. We are blessed with twin daughters, Courtney and Taylor Steele, who attend Temple High School and are currently SENIORS!  They are both members of the Pride of Temple Marching Band and the THS Beta Club.  Our family also includes or chocolate lab, Charley, and a quarterhorse, Jasper, who resides at Witts End stables in Temple. As a resident of Temple, I am glad my girls can attend the same school as their dad and their grandmother.  I am proud of Temple's progress over the years and I am grateful for the beautiful facilities in our area. GO TIGERS!
